Can't wait for the fibre network to be finished. They're claiming speeds 100x what we're getting now.

EDIT - They have a new feature called speedwave ... looks interesting .. you test connection speeds with friends, earn badges etc (not sure what they're for)

You just don't get any better than this? I know you envy me. 57XX metres from the exchange. Apparently I can expect possibly, very doubtfull 50% down to 14% increase in speed at ADSL 2+?

Yeah ADSL2+ is even more sensitive to distance than vanilla ADSL.



Prob won't see any improvement over your current setup until you get fibre when the NBN is rolled out in Vic.

Thanks Zeb for confirming how lucky I am - lol. That 14% is probably wishful thinking. 50% is laughable?

Just ditched ADSL for VDSL. Speedtest shows a significant improvement.

You must be fairly close to your local phone exchange then? It's my understanding that VDSL requires you to be within 1.5k (or so) to really be viable.

Sadly, my internet sucks. We're about 3.5k from the exchange and using adsl 2+ I get the following:


What's worse, the recent federal election saw a change in government and the new ruling powers have opted not to continue with the fibre-to-the-doorstep (FTTD) rollout that the previous govt were underway with, so people who already have it are getting speeds in excess of 100 Mb/s while the rest of us are going to have to put with crappy fibre-to-the-node alternative and still be stuck on copper from the local node to the residence, which will likely only give speeds 1/10 of FTTD.
