Re: NBN speed test
looks very yummy, great for running a games sever or some co-op,
but one thing to remember even with all speed you can only download at a rate of what the site you visit can deliver
this is where disappointment sets in

Re: NBN speed test
This is true - but it's a fair bet that most ISPs will make sure their unmetered content areas are nice and fast.
Imagine being able to set steam to point at the mirror hosted by your isp and have a 10gb game download in 20 mins

Re: NBN speed test
The company i work for has just gotten the contracts to start surveying the sites for the NBN wireless stations and some of the cable paths up here in North Queensland. Hopefully have it here in the next year or two, can't wait!

Re: NBN speed test
All very interesting. the NBN will almost certainly not allow australians to reach peer to peer torrent sites etc. the amount of blacklisting and censorship is going to be annoying. I love to download movie and episode torrents. Will be interesting to see what internet content we will not be allowed to get. How this will impact the isp's economically etc.Who like me wants a 200gb limit on the NBN if i can only download bought or licensed material.I certainly wont be downloading 200gb of steam games per month i could say 40gb perhaps once a blue moon if 2x20gb games came out in the same month i felt i MUST have.I was streaming movies to watch every night before the recent proceedings involving megaupload etc. wow look how fast youtube is buffering lets download 200gb? pff
I would rather be closer to my exchange and be on my current data plan with no NBN if the censorship rumors turn out to be true

The ISP Filter (I think that's what you're talking about s3van) is pretty much dead in the water thanks to a bunch of protest and in your face evidence showing much some dumb shit idea like that would cripple the Internet let alone violate a few human rights along the way.
The speed increase will be good for Internet gaming, especially for us poor suckers up here in the northern parts that have to deal with extremely poor lag.
ACTA is the a bit more of a problem but we've almost got that on the back foot, we just have to get the EU Parliament to kill it. The EUP has to ratify any of the signings already done by the EU countries and if the EUP kills it the entirety of ACTA will fall over as it's a one-in-all-in kind of deal.
A little more info is available at: https://secure.avaaz.org/en/eu_save_the_internet/?fp
There current petition signing is sitting at just under the 2.5 million mark and these guys are actually quite good at delivering media attention and they also have the attention of the politicians as well.
