I'm keen. I'm looking at the hornet for bounty hunting and escort runs (protecting ships not shopping for hookers).

What sort of play styles are people interested in? Bounty hunting? Trade runs? Piracy?

I was so close yesterday to purchasing 2x ships, A package + a 100 dollar ship. This game has got me acting like an excited 5 year old on Christmas eve. I was all like get me in the alpha I'm gonna get these ships, then after a bit more research I see only the hangar module is available atm. So I held off the buy. The alpha is not until next year :/

Do you know if it's possible to visit other players hangers yet? I guess if we get accounts now(ish) we can at least check out the ships we've all bought?

Also, I found an FAQ and posted a new thread on our forum ( https://fbclan.forumotion.com/t1331-faq-says-it-s-not-an-mmo#9637 ) but the main thing to come out of the FAQ (for me anyway) is that this game is not an MMO. It seems like it will be multiplayer online kind of the way GTA Online or Arma is online - ie persistent world and so on.

I'd like to be able to split my time between combat missions (bounty hunting etc) and trade runs. That said, only the _really_ expensive pledges seem to come with more than one ship. I'm still trying to work out if I should (or even if I can) buy a pledge pack and then purchase a 2nd ship separately, or whether the 2nd ship would come with it's own hangar, leaving me with two hangars...

I'm thinking about the Constellation or possibly the Freelancer or the Caterpillar ( https://robertsspaceindustries.com/ship-specs ). Kind of leaning towards the Constellation though, as it comes with it's own deployable fighter (the P-52 Merlin)

I guess if at least one of us has a freighter of some sort, it gives us the ability to run co-op trade runs, with players either manning turrets on the freighter and/or bringing their own fighters as escort vessels.

Thoughts?

And yep - I could not have said it better s3v .. i really do feel like i'm 5 years old and it's Christmas eve... as soon as that hangar module downloads it's time to rip into those presents!!!

At some point in the future when in game finances permit, I'd love to acquire an Idris-P to replace the Constellation for fast cargo runs - they look badass!

progress update...

the game installer is tiny .. 31MB, running it does the usual stuff, including forcing the MS DirectX installer to run (which tries to sneak in the bing bar) as a default install option - be sure to uncheck the bing box

the installer is now downloading the game files - first installer i've seen that has it's own full blown sound track - and a pretty decent one at that ...

anyway - 3.5gb download in progress .. more updates when I get into the hangar

Yeah thats what I was thinking about as well. That for trade runs, smuggling etc I would get something in game or a mate with cargo space and escort with the hornet. At the moment we dont know what the game will be like when we start or how much a ship will cost etc. so I'm going to try to resist the urge to BUY ALL THE SHIPS. I went the digital colonel because that got me the 1 ship I knew I really wanted, a business hangar, some credits, 6 months insurance on the ship and alpha access. Seems the cheapest way to get beta and alpha access is digital bounty hunter pack.

New versions of the hornet released with the "hornet pack" there is an option to upgrade the existing hornet for those that have already bought the colonel pack. (sparehead)

does the colonel pack come with gravy?

hey hey... I think the thread just got better, foodage is a legitimate concern of mine. Through All this intergalactic travel I see fit that it is important to keep the crew well fooded. And unthirsted. And if that means cupholders and kfc, then the investors have spoken. And if it all goes to shit, we will eject that too into the nearest black hole. Space chocolate.
It's the 'circle of life' right there.

On a more serious note: Super Hornet will only be available till monday then never again. You could deck out a hornet to similar specs BUT you wont get the 2nd seat for a crew member/gunner/passenger/bounty and wont have the capacity for the uprated power supply. Not a cheap ship but good lord, SO MANY GUNS.

If you could be certain that it would never be available again, I reckon it'd be worth getting. As a collectors item it'll really hold its value and you always have the option of selling it in game if the price is right

The initial Super Hornet sale will end Monday, November 4th at noon PST. The Ghost and Tracker variants will remain available permanently.

Also as a collectors item that's bristling with guns it will be pretty pimp lol
