G Day All,

I just read this rather disturbing article over at Games.on.net,

The Islamic Republic of Iran has sentenced a video game designer to death.

Iranian authorities claim that Iranian-American developer Amir Mizra Hekmati used CIA funding to create video games designed to subvert public opinion in the land of his birth. The Tehran Times has published a lengthy confession from the condemned man, though given the circumstances it is entirely possible that this statement was extracted under duress.

Mr. Amir Mizra Hekmati was arrested when he recently returned to Iran to visit his family. He had previously worked for the developer of KumaWar, an episodic war game that allows players to simulate military actions ripped straight from today's headlines, such as the downfall of Muammar Gaddafi, and the assassination of Osama bin Laden.

One KumaWar mission, 'Assault on Iran', depicts a raid on that colourful regime's atomic weapons program, and has apparently been downloaded thousands of times in Iran, to the consternation of the state-sanctioned media.

Seriously what is the world coming to, poor bloke little pawn in the middle is going to cop the flak. It will be interesting to see how the US responds given he is actually an American citizen.

Whats next are they going to go Bohemia for Arma2 because there are player made missions in that game that depict real life events especially a lot of the stuff that happens over in the Middle East just look at Arma2 OA for prime example.

It might be grist for the gaming mills in terms of scenario and storyline but it really underlines for me the political tension between Iran and the US. These guys are getting ready to go to war and the yanks will take the first opportunity that presents itself to send in the marines.

That is, of course, assuming the American economy can afford it.

Signature is in the "profile" section, between the profile fields and the main menu there is a row of words which are "tabs", one is signature.. you do not need to worry about BBcode or HTML as it has a (sort of) Rich Text editor
