Voip??????????
Hi Killers, are any of you hobos currently using a voip phone as your main land line? I'm looking at this as an alternative to a fixed land line a as I rarely use the land line at home, thus it is just chewing up dollars. Is voip any good, line quality etc, I would assume my old answering machine would become obsolete? Does voip still have a long way to go?
Cheers

Re: Voip??????????
I have a mate who has been using it for a while. I remember him saying that it was so-so until he got changed over to dsl 2, then it was fine.
One other thing to be aware of is that some VoIP services use numbers called out-of-area geographic numbers. This means, for example, that you could have a number usually associated with Melbourne (03 9xxx xxxx) or another city, even if you live and use your VoIP service in Hobart.
This can lead to unexpected increased call charges.
The ACMA recently published some info on this, with tips on how to avoid said pitfalls.

Re: Voip??????????
I have a friend using voip.
It works well but sometimes he has fax errors.
Occasionally noticeable quality loss but generally ok.
The weird part is that all his conversations can be recorded word for word and can go back years.

Re: Voip??????????
Recorded conversations going back years.....err.. CC says he is a representative for a company that provides air conditioning solutions specifically tailored for industrial settings. He claims this is why he constantly travels around the world. Suspect much?
Occasionally noticeable quality loss but generally okay. Sounds like an admission from a marriage counseling session

"However, they may be charged as though your service is at the location identified by your out-of-area number" Nice find Zeb
Thank you for the advice and info lads.
Shit that was almost a "verbatim statement" You are scaring me now. I'll look for listening devices and tiny cameras around the house - lol.
As for trotting all over the globe for work, the end of that era is almost is almost here.
