Re: Arrived today
Sent that first reply from my phone which is why it was a short reply.
Regarding the graphics - yeh - the game looks as nice as bf3, but even on max settings at 2560x1600 it runs very smoothly.
Also, the action in the single player is more over the top. Scooting along in a zodiac while under fire, squeezing in between navy ships that are in the harbour - using the deck of a half sunk aircraft carrier as a ramp to jump over an exploding patrol cruiser. Being on board a russian airline shooting terrorists - the plane dives suddenly and you're in zero G freefall inside the plane .. but still able to control your character and blaze away at terrorists where are also in freefall. Then, the plane breaks in half and you're standing there at the break in the fuselage, watching the back half of the plane with the remaning few terrorists receede into the distance. Pretty over the top action, but quite a rollercoaster ride so far.
There was even a South African map which really reminded me of Far Cry 2, which was kinda fun.
Also - the single player picks up pretty much right where black ops left off - so you get to find out what happens to the characters - good continuity.
I'll see if I can finish the single player today and post more here.

Re: Arrived today
I think battlefield 3 looks a bit better . Detail of the textures, lighting, object detail, accuracy. I saw it on my brothers computer on ultra and it looked stunning.
You could have made one post here instead of 3... Its a bit annoying checking the thread 3 times.

Re: Arrived today
We pretty much all know how it runs, being the modified cod4 engine. The thing is you could have jumped straight to the review after you played it. Thats the meat and bones of it. Its all well and good you created a thread, But where it started was like a twitter post...
When we got there though It was interesting and informative. I was comparing it to how I played it and it's pretty similar. And interesting you mention farcry 2, I also thought of it.
Farcry 2 however was very unlinear which made it more like the paintball section at the carnival than the roller coaster we have here. Way different strategies.

Well since most ppl in the clan seems to be focusing more on BF3 and hadn't really said anything too detailed about their impressions of MW3, I thought I'd give everyone a heads up that it arrived in the post and that once I had played it a bit I'd post first impressions. It's not like I do game reviews or even write for a living, so if my prose is a little verbose I guess that's just how it goes That said, the media do that sort of thing all the time .. "Don't miss the show/column/blog next week when we review xyz"..
Regarding the FC2 stuff, yeh I agree the MW3 africa map was (like all the maps) quite linear - but I mentioned it more because the overall look and feel of the level reminded me of FC2, what with the chirping insects, the jungle vegetation and the shany towns made of corrugated tin houses etc.
The SP campaign seems as though it's somewhat longer than BF3. From what I've done so far (spent about 5 hours on it) it's telling me at the main menu that I'm about 40% done. BF3 seemed to be over in about 6 hours or so, but I guess with both these games, the developers are putting their main effort into the MP experience - as that's where the best longevity payoffs for these sorts of games are to be had.

Re: Arrived today
For me the campaign is about 5 hours, so my guess is your nearly there. The ingame completion thing is a bit misleading. To attain 100% you need all of the intel and complete on veteran.
Battlefield 3 and mw3 have co operative modes to extend it a bit. I was pretty satisfied with the bf3 co-op myself. Mw3 I had a brief look at. -not my cup of tea.
