43 year old Tasmanian psychologist Stephen Alexander Harper was very fond of his cat Tootie, so when it died in August 2006 and his mother laughed about it he presumed she had poisoned the cat and he exploded with rage and killed both his parents with an axe.

    ...Yea? ...And?

Following a massive naval bombardment, 35,000 United States and Canadian troops stormed ashore at Kiska, in the Aleutian Islands (Alaska) 21 troops were killed in the fire fight. It would have been worse if there had been any Japanese on the island.

Over the course of the two day, (un-opposed stay), on the island, 122 Allied soldiers were killed, 191 MIA and one destroyer was lost during "Operation Cottage"

At first one thinks, "well thank F__K for that" but then the subtle irony being that no one would be even remotely interested in kissing any of them were it not for a number of rapidly ingested beverages in the first place. So no, safe to say non of them were ever kissed again....except maybe by each other...*shudder*

    Space Time
In space, light and time act differently than here on Earth, and speed is a different concept when time can theoretically be stopped in its tracks.
The speed of light is 186,000 miles per second, or approximately 670 million miles per hour. Nothing in the universe travels faster than light: at the speed of light, time stops. No matter how fast you are moving when you observe it, the speed of light will always be 186,000 miles per second. In physics, the three dimensions of space and the fourth, separate dimension of time combine to form a single construct throughout the cosmos called space-time. Using space-time, scientists can measure both the place and time something occurs in one.
Time is relative to the person observing it and time may change depending on how fast the observer is moving. Time passes more slowly for satellites in orbit when compared to time on Earth because those satellites are moving. Satellites used for the Global Positioning System are launched with their clocks running faster so that when they reach orbit they mark time the same as Earth-based clocks. Because time passes more slowly in orbit around Earth, astronauts arrive home a little younger than if they had spent the same amount of time on Earth. If you were to travel near the speed of light for what seems to be 20 years, you would return to Earth thousands of years in the future.

Ever since encountering that stuff in high school science and later at uni, I've always found it fascinating.

Hawkings book A brief history of time explains these and other concepts really well.

If you're still after more of that stuff after reading Hawkings book, check out Talbot's The holographic universe which contains some interesting alternatives to the theories put forward by hawking.

Looking for more 12 volt solar panels today and I came across some good old fashioned advertising. Well not exactly old fashioned but let's say if the politically correct censors here in Aus had not been so active over the last 20 years, (and women weren't allowed to vote - lol - just kidding.) we would have been blessed with advertising like this during the ad breaks. That would liven up the cricket?
