So I'm kind of getting organised
Some of you guys may already know? Basically my tenure with my current company is drawing to a close and for some time I have been planning a relocation from Melbourne to the country thus I will be taking a wanted sabbatical from the work force. It is starting to actually happen. More than 12 months ago we were planning to bail out of the workforce for a year or to do some travelling and now the timing is right.
In early August we purchased a nice little slightly elevated block on a river of which is also linked to an immediate backwater. On the opposite side of the water the land will never be built on as it is subject to mild flooding, so no neighbours to look at, just cows and trees. We are well above the flood level so no issue for us. So the plan is to build on it in about 24 months time.
We intend over the next 24 months to do a couple more OS trips of which we have already planned and partially paid for and then travel around Aus. Today we purchased an off road camper of which will be completed by April 2012. We have a good few items to still spec into it, inverters, cook tops microwave, hot water system and solar systems and stuff etc etc. We have purchased the cart and now we need to buy the horse so a 4WD is on the menu. We've already been researching and visiting dealers, although we are a long way off making a decision.
So now we have to determine, do we sell the house or rent it out? We are favouring the renting scenario so that it will give me some food and beer bucks whilst travelling, then when we return, hose the bastard out, sell it and then build on the new block?
It is going to be a cool 24 months coming up, but we still have a lot more to get organised. I wish I had a bit more (lot more) knowledge about 4WD's and diesel engines? That will come as I have at least three months to select one.

Cool CC, sounds like an action packed few months, best of luck with all your endeavors.
Re: So I'm kind of getting organised
Sounds good CC you'll have to build a PC into the wagon with a big sat dish on the roof & be the envy of all the grey nomads (not saying your grey) all the best Toyota or Nissan should serve you well not that I know much these days but back 10 years ago in a larger 4wd they would have been my pick for what you want. Both ride well, good comfort & balls.

Re: So I'm kind of getting organised
I can post some pics of the land as for the camper that will take a couple of weeks until I go back to the manufacturer and I can take a pic or two of the floor model.
Burnt, I can hear you fragging your fellow clan mates from where I live, Langwarrin. I've been here for about 13 years, I previously lived in Beaumaris.
Satellite? I have not even put any thought into that. Yet I did not put a lot of thought into this, I just said let's do it. Some of you may recall I was going to blast off globally for a while although plans change have changed somewhat, although these are not cheaper? (No brains here???) I'm kind of feeling recklessly stupid, but loving it?

Re: So I'm kind of getting organised
Ok and update - Today after many, many weeks of research, test drives and trolling various forums we finally purchased a 2011 Mitsubishi Challenger LS 2.5 litre turbo charged intercooled common rail diesel. It has a decent amount of power and torque (compared to some of the bigger guys) and it has enough toys in it. Best of all an automatic diff lock system.
(I know there are brand loyal people out there and I was so close to getting a Pathfinder but after reading horror story after horror story and talking to a few people took a wide berth from the Pathfinder and late model Navara based technology series all together. Recently Nissan have dropped the ball and everybody bitches how hard it is to get warranty issues sorted. We considered a Patrol but in the end what we got is more than adequate to do what we want it to do ,and it will tow our light weight camper trailer easily.) I just don't like the idea of DMF clutches shitting themselves between 30 & 60K and or the front diffs doing the same, let alone dropping a timing chain only to be up for a new motor? All too frequent stories emerging of these faults. Their 550 series is supposedly bullet proof?
So now I've got to fit it out with draws, racking system and nine squillion batteries, bull bar, fog lights and HID driving lights. Off with the factory stock tyres and on with some Cooper STT's, lift kit, maybe a snorkel, diff and auto breathers etc and many other toys before we are ready to blast off.
Completion of the camper trailer is April. The car is due in about a week's time for delivery.

Re: So I'm kind of getting organised
Maybe not Jiggy baby. You have got me on the statellite internet crusade,. We have a friend that is right into radio and clued in to satellite skimming, what ever the FK that means or is? He has several automatic satalite tracking dishes in his back yard, plus tower aerials? He states no problem to get internet just about anywhere? Yes but at what cost I'm thinking?
We are going to get a decent I7 laptop or what the current format will be in April? so I reckon I will have plenty of time sitting in a deck chair near the fire to get online and speak shit? Yes more shit than you currently hear.
Cya bros

Ok here is a pick of the car that is going to tow the Camper trailer. It doesn't need to be an animal machine, it just needs to fit for the purpose intended, it will be towing less than 1500k. And it will get a little trashed. A lot of mods coming soon. The dual battery, have 2 x 40ltr fridge freezers, towbar, winch, lights etc etc.
It is somewhat higher than my Comode and doesn't hit the bumbs as hard/.
