Modern Warfare 3
Guess someone had better put a post about Activisons new money machine
It doesnt look to bad I guess, but its more a given now that its going to be pretty damn similar to Modern Warfare 2, and I did like the storyline there, so I will probably pick it up for that. I think I'm going to be giving Battlefield 3 more of a run though.
All you have to do is look at the cover art to tell that this is really aimed at the console shooter crowd though, literally says Call of Duty: MW3. With three of their trailers being called "Am3rica" "G3ermany" and "Franc3". Seriously. I really wish I was making that up....

Re: Modern Warfare 3
This is the final point where I have given up all hope for the COD series. After MW2 I was feeling sorta shaky, but Black Ops was good enough for me to buy it.
This... this just looks shit. Same, 4 year old engine, over-the-top stupid set piece battles, boring multiplayer with probably 2-3 OP guns that every uses... no thanks, no longer will I milk the cash caw for Activision.
I am just seriously hoping BF3 puts a serious dent in this game. Maybe, just MAYBE publishers will realise they can't release the same goddamn game 4 times and expect it to do well..

Re: Modern Warfare 3
I will get it, I just wont be paying very much for it!
I kindof enjoyed black ops single player, its just like a continuation of the previous games...and I don't expect anything new.
Just a forgettable few hours of entertainment. For me its just like going to see one of those hollywood action movies but I'm slightly in control. There is a saying that it is far easier to keep customers than make new ones which applies here.
Multiplayer, well battlefield 3 will be out anyway.

COD has never impressed me, but the zombies in world at war was something cool, I was a bit of a late bloomer with that though. Deff BF3 not going to bother with this =[. cod MP has always been too "circular" small almost arena style maps similar to counterstrike. a bit dull for me, need something bigger RAAAh big

I remember the old Battlefield 1942 maps. Now they were BIG. The north africa desert map was huge. Even on a full server, you could walk/drive for ages without encountering another player. It really encouraged team tactics because if you died while assualting an objective on your own it might take quite a while for you to make your way back there. Safety and effectiveness in numbers, for sure.

Re: Modern Warfare 3
Are you sure thats not nostalgia though? I used to like farcry as it was one of my first multiplayer games. The servers running it were small and competitive.
-But to go back to it is not pretty at all. Battlefield 2142 as was almost hard to look at when I loaded up the new maps and things a little while back. With the larger maps it was sometimes a trek to get places if your chopper or transport got shot down.

Re: Modern Warfare 3
Yeh that was kinda the fun of it though. Having to trek a bit to get to the objective meant it gave you time to form up with your team mates, have a plan of attack rather than just rush in guns blazing, hoping for the best. And since the AO's were large, it gave room for tactical maneuvering. Fake attacks from one side of the base to draw away defenders, so the rest of the team had time to rush in from the now undefended flank, or using armour to bottle them up somewhere tight and then leveling the place with airstrikes or artillery .. and so on.
Some (not all, but some) of the maps for MP games these days feel so small it's like being a ball in a pinball machine, along with 15 other players who you just keep bouncing off, over and over.

Re: Modern Warfare 3
I've found MW3 for $57, a lot better than the $100 that everyone else is asking. As silly as it is, I did enjoy the MW2 storyline...
Have you found any other prices Wags?

Re: Modern Warfare 3
Depends on how quick you want it and how you feel about the download.
If you can borrow the dvd to install, by all means get a cdkey.
If you have lots of games coming already ie. arkham city or rage like me it may be worth a little wait to knock off a fraction of the retail or download.

USD 26.50 for the key here is probably the cheapest.
eb has $100 for a steelbook and 4 V 500ml energy drinks
Game has it with a preorder usb and mostly content you can download $80.
jbhifi/ dick smith for $80 nothing special.
Consoles only get the elite edition, but dont worry its mostly subscription based multiplayer content.
Game uk has special british forces multiplayer skins.
Then ebay it comes down to how quick you want it.
-Sitting around 50- 60 mark. The aussie gamers guys look pretty fair.
Then we have the cdkeys prices around 26-40.

Played through the singleplayer today. Pretty much like the previous ones but, still a mostly entertaining 5 hours. Samey samey. The upside is you know what you're getting. The downside is the engine looks dated.

Re: Modern Warfare 3
Who, I honestly couldnt spoil it if I tried- I haven't kept track of the story. Standard action movie stuff.
I'll say its got things I like in it Aircraft, tanks helicopters, explosions and people getting shot. Very linear and scripted. So the things that really stand out to me are the truly unbelievable and unexpected way that they happen as a first peson shooter. The ongoing dialog and comments are interesting to hear. It's hard to tell you those memorable bits without spoiling it.
It's what I wanted. Just not a 'Everybody drop everything and play this' sort of game. And not a game standing out from the other call of dutys.
