Hi guys I neglected to mention yesterday after hearing the news over the radio on my way home. Yesterday, all Australian states (except NSW Attorney General) signed a document that would see an R18+ classification for video games in Australia implemented before the end of the year. The NSW Attorney General said he had not discussed the issue with his cabinet & that he wished to seek counsel before committing his government to a bill they may not support. He said that after nine years of not being brought up in parliament it was opened up too soon and that he had not been given enough time to gain advise on the issue.

So this is an encouraging step in the right direction. Finally! I personally like my gore. If an adult can go into a store and purchase or hire a film with an 18+ rating, why can we not purchase a video game in the same fashion? Obviously minors would be restricted in the same way they are all ready regarding films and other material deemed inappropriate for minors. The availability of such content is still easily available on the internet. It is the responsibility of the parent to monitor and take measures which prevent their child from accessing material that is unsuitable. In the end, I think the o nus lies in parental discretion.

Yeh hopefully the federal govt will push it through for all states and territories. I read something about the NSW AG Greg Smith abstaining from the vote because 'more consultation with stakeholders' was needed. FFS - this has only been a tabled issue for the AG's since 2002, so yeh I can understand how 9 years isn't long enough to think about it. The fact that every public consultation on this came back overwhelmingly in support of the R18 category seems to have escaped his notice.

This pic .. Australian R18+ Gaming CLassification Lead_Greg-420x0 was in the article. Look at the smug, superior bastard. Hands tented, Monty Burns style. Exxxxcelllent. I'm glad this dick head's self righteous moralising and political grand-standing (disguised as a delay for further research) didn't derail the process.
