NZ Earthquake Sept 2010

Post by {FB}VSync on Thu 09 Sep 2010, 11:11 am

This I think is quite an amazing scientific earthquake animation.
It shows where, how many, date & time, magnitude, depth and in only a few days in September 2010.

Wow V. That animation is freakin scary! Looks like there have been literally hundreds of aftershocks.

I've been to Christchurch and it was such beautiful town. Damn shame!

Is the peninsula trying to succeed from the rest of NZ?

Added another picture of the ground openning up above too.

Funny you say that as we were discussing the two plates in NZ....

and what we noticed for the first time was Christchurch south is heading underground because of the two plates colliding with each other. The Pacific plate (from the pictures above) is pushing up and under the Australian plate. Hence when you refer to down under it is literally some of the South Island.
But what I have just noticed is seeing that I live in the North and stand on the Australian plate I now feel very Aussie. Surprised
