NSW Fires Oct 2013
My thoughts are with any FB brothers, their respective families, relatives, friends, and all people affected by this crisis. Be safe and take care.

Re: NSW Fires Oct 2013
Thanks mate. Had a little one here yesterday arvo. Small amount of ash and some tinders being whipped over the top fence and into the yard, but nothing alight enough to cause any follow on. Fair bit of smoke and fire engines (and sirens) all over the surrounding streets though, which was making the kids a bit jittery. Calmed em down by spraying them with the hose while they jumped on the trampoline :)which was also a good excuse the keep the roof and gutters soaked
My dad txted later on to say there was a big fire near their place, about 1/2 hour up the road from where we live now, where I grew up. He said it was like night time in the middle of the arvo. Lots of smoke but the fire front was at least 2-3k away and other than coughing and sneezing a lot, they are all ok.

This pic was on the newspaper website. It's from the car park of williamtown airport which is just down the road from my parents place.
Looks worse than it is I have to say. The whole area is dotted with small clusters of houses and huge tracts of uninhabited bushland in between. The fireys pretty much just let it run its course and focus on dousing local houses and businesses to stop tinders starting new fires.

That is great news Zeb that you have avoided the fire issues. I have to say; what a great way to calm down the kids, alleviating some of their concerns by spraying them and dfilling the gutters at the same time.{FB}Zebitty wrote: Fair bit of smoke and fire engines (and sirens) all over the surrounding streets though, which was making the kids a bit jittery. Totally didn't realize you were affected up there zeb totally missed my mind. I knew central coast was getting battered but was not sure as to the whereabouts of the fires. Down here is not as severe as the situation you describe up in newy. While there is smoke engulfing the Illawarra it is mostly coming either from afar or preventative back-burning going on the escarpment. There were several large fires over the hills that were threatening homes at Wongawilly but for the most part good down here.

Re: NSW Fires Oct 2013
Zeb, I hate to think what is happening to your surrounding community. It must be pretty bloody scary right now. Again, I hope you are good?
The reports that we are constantly getting here in Melbourne is that Newcastle is being battered by fire, along with many other areas. Sadly this very reminisce of our devastating fires here in Vic several years back. What makes it worse is that some of these fires have been deliberately lit; and there are other flea bag f*&king rodents looting. Actually both types share a similar venom from me, sorry for the swearing but in this case it is more than appropriate, it's actually very underdone from what I really want to say.

Re: NSW Fires Oct 2013
Yeh mate all good here. Yesterday, there was a big fire at Minmi (west of Newcastle) that jumped over the M1 in bushland area about 10k/m from our place, but there's two suburbs in between that and us, with little or no vegetation, so pretty unlikely that it'd make it this far. Lots of smoke though so we're keeping the windows on the house all closed up - luckily this new place we built has air-conditioning
